Farbeam and token scanners
Token scanners read a contract or mint and report on risky features. GoPlus and RugCheck are well-known examples, and pool screeners such as DexScreener show market data next to them. Farbeam is not an independent scanner. Its token report reads those sources and direct RPC, then applies fixed thresholds to the fields. It does its own reading of Solana mint authorities, supply and largest accounts. It does not run its own contract analysis or its own sell simulation.
If a source is wrong, the Farbeam report is wrong in the same way.
#Comparison by capability
| Capability | Token scanner, in general | Farbeam token report |
|---|---|---|
| Own contract analysis | Yes, this is the product | No. Reads GoPlus fields on EVM |
| Honeypot simulation | Common | Reads is_honeypot from GoPlus |
| Solana mint and freeze authority | Common | Direct getAccountInfo, 5-minute cache |
| Composite risk score | Common | None by design. The RugCheck score is shown as one named check on Solana |
| Absent fields | Varies | unknown, never counted as a pass |
| Source named per field | Varies | Yes: checks[].source and checks[].field |
| Chains | Often many | Seven |
| Holder data | Varies | Top 10 from GoPlus on EVM. Largest token accounts by RPC on Solana |
| Market data with checks | Varies | DexScreener, the first 30 pools the source returns |
| Bulk calls | Many offer a paid API | One token per call, 3 units per call |
| New-token feeds | Common | Not available. Only an aggregator's trending pools |
| Wallet approvals, phishing checks | Some offer them | Not available |
#Example of the difference
At 2026-11-04T19:20:50Z the report for USDC on Ethereum had 7 pass, 1 warn, 0 fail and 6 unknown. GoPlus did not return is_mintable, owner_change_balance, hidden_owner, transfer_pausable, is_blacklisted or lp_holders. A single score would need a decision about those gaps. Farbeam shows the gaps. See anatomy of a token report.
#Use a token scanner instead when
- You want an opinion in one number or one color.
- You need a check that the Farbeam report does not include, such as a wallet approval check.
- You need bulk scans at volume with a commercial contract.
- You want the raw source fields. GoPlus returns far more fields than Farbeam reads, and calling it directly is reasonable.
- You are checking a token in a chain Farbeam does not cover.
#Where Farbeam can help
| Task | Farbeam feature |
|---|---|
| One JSON shape for EVM and Solana token checks | GET /tokens/{chain}/{address} |
| Seeing clearly which source failed for a given report | sources[] with ok and time in ms |
| Fixed public thresholds you can reproduce | Token checks |
| Reading a report with no account | Token report tool |
#Limits to keep in mind
- A clean report does not mean a token is safe. New exploits and off-chain risks do not show up in these fields.
- A
faildoes not mean a token is a scam. USDT on Ethereum shows afailonowner_change_balance, which reflects its issuer powers. - Reports describe the moment they were read and use caches of up to 5 minutes.
- Nothing in a report is a view on price.
